Well, I have been home this week, bored out of my mind making lesson plan upon lesson plan while on rest. We still had school this week, but me being an absolute silly goose had an accident leaving my face not looking great to teach at a primary school. Although being bored, I haven’t been posting very much on the blog because there is nothing new, but here is the story of why I was on rest! (Which is now very funny, however it still hurts to laugh).
also side not the only thing I am hype about right now is the hand tractor my family is building so I can ride in it. My host family doesn’t have a car, and I am not allowed to ride on a motorcycle, but if the hand tractor has a roof on it, I can ride, and you best believe when it is done we shall ride (it goes super slow, but still faster than my bike!)
Ok, back to my face. After school on Monday I went across the street to the primary school with my little sister, which is something we do to pass the time after school. We were swinging on the swing set (me going a little too high) and my little sister goes “Alex look! No hands!” Without thinking, I did the same and said “Look no hands!” But this was at the peak of me swinging back, so instead of going no hands, butt still in chair, I fell out of the swing face first-sliding onto the ground, which is pebbles and dirt. At first I popped back up trying to tell my little sister “it’s ok” “it’s ok” but then she told me that I had two huge wound/cuts on my face. So I looked at my camera and lo and behold, the ground fought my face and I lost that battle.
I rushed home going to clean out the wound, to which every single student storms into the house asking what is wrong and what happened. Even with my grandma saying “we need to take you to the hospital”. When it comes to injuries, I am usually a huge baby who cannot do anything by themselves, but this time I washed my scrapes by myself (which was in a painful panic). I texted Peace Corps and I took the steps to clean it and take care of it, but it wasn’t looking pretty. Then I called my one true doctor: my mom. I put ice on it and she told me maybe I would have a black eye but my face was pretty banged up. The worst was when my older host sister came home and she saw my face and went “WHAT HAPPENED.” At the end of the day, I felt very dizzy and it looked like I just got in a rough fight.
This happened on Monday, and I still needed to teach the next day, so my plan of attack was to put two huge band-aids over my face to cover the scrapes so the kids at school didn’t see them. I woke up the next morning, however, and my face was so swollen that my eye was almost completely shut. And for that matter, my whole left side of my face was puffed up, especially on my cheek-bone and on my jaw. I put the band-aids on and tried to go to school. Of course when I arrived every single student came up to me and ask what happened, because it was fairly obvious I was hurt with two bandaids covering my whole face and my left eye almost swollen shut. I told them the truth (although I wanted to tell them that I fought a dragon and won) and they all laughed that I fell off of the swing. During our flag raising ceremony, my school director walked over to me and said “why are you here?! You need to go home.” I truly tried to petition to stay and teach despite my rough state, but he was adamant I go home and rest for a week. A WEEK. So, I biked back home.
I am grateful he let me rest for the week, although it has been the most boring week of my life. The dizziness is probably from a minor concussion (self diagnosed but I mean I fell face first from the high point of a swing set so it makes sense). I did lesson plans and switched between sitting outside in the shade and sitting inside my room trying not to cook in my little room oven (the high was 100 degrees this week). Because I rested and did not push myself, my face healed immensely just within the short span of a week, with the swelling going down and the scrapes almost fully healed. Now, the spots are red with newly healed skin. However, still everyone asks me what happened and I have to tell them that I embarassingly fell off of a swing set.
Anyways, like I said before, now it is a funny story.
(did not include pictures for this one because it truly was a bad sight)
